-NEW TRICKS-

New tricks
In the car, the viewer’s go straight to the two men talking this is where the camera goes to shot reverse shot to make us feel as if we were in the car too also to show us where the men are and what they are doing, and at this time they are in the car talking, then they are interrupted by a women, what we see is a women dressed unusually for the time of year and weather for this and the shallow depth to the girl implies that she might be prostitute. What we can see form the older man is that he is very old fashioned this is easy to tell by the cloths that is wearing they are old fashioned, old styles and as he is the dominant male in the car he has chosen the music in the car the song in the background is an old song, a song that he would of listened to whist in his teens however there is a chilled smooth, cold, chilled non-diegetic sound in the background. Next we see another older male dressed in yellow that is a bright colour and is meant to make you stand out to driver and such but whist in the phone booth he acts mysteries and distant this fights against the fact that he is trying not to be noticed and seem normal this could suggest that the male in yellow is less mature than the older male in the car.
The first time the female and the older male meet the viewer first know because of the long shot of his car coming forward to the women. The women notices that the slow drive as the universal sign of wanting a prostitute whist playing a slow, low volume and slowing rise in tone music in the background signing to the viewer that some action is going to appear soon. What is first notice about the women is that she dresses very similarly to the other women form the first part of the clip this is stereotyping prostitute as wrongly dressed and young. Next her language and sturetuce she’s uses is very improper and uses a lot of slang “alrite coper” when they are talking a shot reverse shot is used and the older males stays in charter the whole time and tells her the truth “he’s a coper” then there is a long shot of all the charters and to show the women’s action. The woman screams and kicks the overweight males and kicks the males groin showing that she knows that she is in the wrong, what she can do to cause damage and that she’s a strong and impendent women.
The chase, the women is first to run we focus on the women running first because there is a shallow focus on her first, what else is noitceable is that the music is much faster and louder to rise the viewer’s exigent and scepence. Both of the older males start running however the overweight male is left behind but soon the old fashioned styled male runs out of breath and decides to have a cigarette this is stereotyping the older male as un educated on medical subjects and are un able to complete physical tasks unlike the younger female that has got a breathing pattern and has her eyes forward whist running however she is shouting in different areas we can tell by the handheld and dolly tracking we can see the background she is shouting for help this could stereotype younger people expect help for anywhere and believe it’s available 24/7. Whist the older man dress in yellow (biking clothes) at one point to talks to the bike or himself “just like old days” this could suggest that the older person were socially deprived as in there wasn’t as much social communication and this might lead to older people to be confused about what they can talk to as they see younger people talking into phone and now even talking to phones also shows us how old the male is “just like old times” is usually what much older people talk about the memories they can remember.  Toward the end of the chase the women runs down a path were a bike is unable to, the biker try’s to stop we can tell he did by the sudden close up of the biker pulling the brakes the way that age is shown is that the older person won’t be able to take the risk of riding over the stairs so even though the older male has got an advantages side by riding a bike in a chase he’s not young enough to take big risks when he stops the music stops too however it doesn’t stop by fading it stops by the pulling of the older males brakes to emphasize that the action has stopped. The older male is passed out on top of the younger female this could suggest that the older people are trapping the younger people over there control and power we see this by the two shot the camera provides and a zoom of the old fashioned male and a close up of him taking a photo this also shows us his old styled humour.
Next in the hospital the hospital is the place where the old die and the new and born so this could be a message to the biker that if he does these sorts of actives he will hurt himself much worse, the is a dolly track shot of a women walking to the bed and it’s his wife this also shows his age and the broadness of his wife appearing to the hospital. Next in the questioning room for the young women this builds up the stereotype that younger people are trouble markers and criminals and that she is wild and out of control in the questioning room then the camera pans to the older male and we still hear the younger female but it has been edited to sound as if her voice is being played from a microphone
To conclude both age groups are shown as weak and out of control.

Doctor Who -CLOSING TIME-

The theme is this episode is about the doctor moving on and about how emotions can’t be taken away. The doctor is preparing for his last day so he is visiting a friend Craig Owens the doctor says hello and tries to leave but he can’t he is distracted by a flickering light when he’s at the tardis he says to himself “why do I help these humans” also he has a emotional side to the baby for example he can talk baby and has a convention with him about life and how he hopes for the best for him. Near the end of the show when Owens is captured he is put in a machine to become a cyber-man but brakes though when his kid starts to cry this is a main part in the episode because it’s a key message in the theme. They are a few shots in this episode for example: crane, panning, close ups, tracking, high and extreme long shots. the crane shot is mostly used to show the flickering in the lights this is how the doctor knows something is wrong and tell the audience something is wrong because it is a sci-fi they is also editing in this part because the light makes some notice, this once needs to be added or enhanced by a computer. Panning shots are used to shoe the surrounding and emotions in doctor who this is used to show where the employees work. Cuts between settings, change the background music for example the shopping centre to the house are very different. At one point there was a cut when in the house the lights were flickering then cut to the shopping centre the lights were flickering at the same time this tell us that this maybe nationwide. Going back to the doctor trying to leave the next since is of him still on earth, got a job and happy. In the elevator they get teleported to space in this since a green screen is used but it gives an idea who the cyber men are and what can happen.

Ageism In Waterloo Road

Waterloo road first came on TV in 2006; it is set in a real school in Rochdale Lancashire. Waterloo road makes viewer think that teenage girl’s goal is to get a boyfriend and the boys to get a girlfriend. Parents that try to motivate their children to work hard in school are very annoyed by the negative pictures the media shows of teens and the secondary schools they go to. There was a 15 year old talking about having a baby and there’s also a teen homicide that killed a pedestrian but in the real world that is very unlikely and a psychotic teen waving a gun around to his peers and teachers. These sorts of events might happen but it’s the media who put a different light on it for example background music and the teen’s history. Waterloo can also make a stereotype for Grantly Budgen the English teacher and he is also the head of English, he can have the image of being an old grumpy teacher. Most teens who watch waterloo road see the show as a picture of how secondary school is meant to be like. However the TV show is shown before the watershed so it can be relevant to teens.

Vladimir Propp

Vladimir Propp, the Russian critic that published his Morphology of the Folk Tale in the 1928 when the soviet was gooding great he found out that folk tales were very similar, they all had a the basic struggles and seemed to have the same stock of characters. He showed us the theory about the characters.

Characters that perform a function

The Hero
character that seeks something
The Villain
who opposes or actively blocks the hero’s quest
The Donor
who provides an object with magical properties
The Dispatcher
who sends the hero on his/her quest via a message
The False Hero
who disrupts the hero’s success by making false claims
The Helper
who aids the hero
The Princess
acts as the reward for the hero and the object of the villain’s plots
Her Father
who acts to reward the hero for his effort

It’s about avoiding treating characters as if they are individuals and tells us they are manmade constructs. Some characters are indeed there just to progress the narrative.

Beauty and the Beast

The Villain – who opposes or actively blocks the hero’s quest
Gaston thinks of himself as the best person in the village, made wants to marry the best women in the village Bella, he is humiliated when she rejects him, as the story goes along Gaston becomes jealous then make a mob to save Bella and to kill the beast, he fights with the beast and shoots an arrow at and taunts him about his looks. However the villain falls to his death.

The hero-
The beast, which has had a spell put on him and needs to break the curse to become human again. He falls in love with the princess (Bella) the beast has a fight with the villain and get stab be him however the beast does fall of the castle. Bella come to his aid whist the beast is dying but the curse is broken to he becomes human then carry’s on to marry the princess (Bella)

The princess-Bella is the inventor’s daughter that loves to read book and help her feather, Bella at the end when she falls in love with the beast she lay with him (the beast) in his dyeing monument she confesses the love she had for the beast at the same time as the last petal falls form the magically rose. The love that Bella has for the hero brings the beast back to life and wipes of the curse.

The Princess (acts as the reward for the hero and the object of the villain’s plots)
Rapunzel Is another Disney princess, with over 70 feet of blond hair with magic powers that heal and reverse aging when a special song is sung

Flower gleam and glow,
Let your power shine.
Make the clock reverse,
Bring back what once was mine.
Heal what has been hurt,
Change the fate's design,
Save what has been lost.
Bring back what once was mine.
What once was mine?

She was kidnapped by the villain Mother Gothel when she was an infant whilst in her coot sleeping. Rose in a tower up to her 18th birthday. Rapunzel watches the “lights in the sky” on her 18th birthday the hero stumbles across her tower and gets hit around the head with a frying pan this results in the hero being knock out she keeps the hero hostage un till he argues to her demand and after he takes her to see the “lights in the sky” he will get his item back. In this case I believe the princess is also the Father (who acts to reward the hero for his effort at the end)

The Villain – who opposes or actively blocks the hero’s quest

Mother Gothel is Rapunzel’s up bringer only because she kidnaped Rapunzel at a young age in had her live in a tower for 18 years. The up bringer that puts Rapunzel down so she can have her power at any time. She tries to stop the hero and the princess by catching up with the princess and demands that she will come home with her but her plan fails so she hires two men to catch Rapunzel and to bring her back and to what they want with the hero.

The Helper – who aids the hero?

Maximus the horse, he helps both the princess and the hero. Maximus helps the princess find her way safely to the city and protects the hero not to get arrested.

Hegemony&Social realism

Hegemony:  is a system where a single social group or country changes the system in a way so the event seems justifiable.
Social realism: is to support a person or country for example portraying a dictator surrounded by young children.

PRIME OCR.EXT.AVI HOW IS GENDER SHOWN?

Both genders are in the clip, male and females. 3 females and 4 males. The first women we see in the clip for about 10 seconds in addition she seems to be in an emotional state walking toward the car to that is motionless by a male being asked “what’s wrong” and then responding “none of this should be happening…none of it!” then walking off to the car. The manner of voice that the male has whilst chatting to the women displays that he is a kind hearted person disturbed for this woman and the women is intensely worried about the situation and gives the male a two second deep stare whist opening the door of the car. When the male is walking back he is told by an older man that to “let her go” and “she has been though a lot” this could mean the older male has a different look towards women for instance he could see women as emotional unstable and unpredictable like how women were seen as in the past.
The next seen we see a male, female and some sort of leopard. We see a female operating an enormous digging machine, normally a man would be seen operating this sort of machine as it’s seen to be masculine though the woman is wearing a black leather jacket and that too is seen to be masculine. Shortly after digging a creature appears and frightens the male so much that he hides in a hole and cries for help “abbey!” whist the female is fighting the creature she doesn’t reply because she is in control and eventful theses are the same charactistics of a man playing an game in a intense level such as not replying and keeping the eye on the objective. Also the female turns on the machine after being told to turn it off because she sees herself as the leader and in control. As the creature come to attack the male the female demands the attention of it by shouting “oi” this word “oi” is seen as a un feminine word. Then carries on to have a fight with the creature, the creature looks to be some sort of animal form the leopard line , the leopard is seen as a feminine animal and the fight suggest that the female is fighting another female to protect the male so the female is also shown to protect the man form other females. Soon after the male climbs out of the hole and calls for the action of the creature and starts to run this can put it to somebody that a man that lets a woman to be in control to be week and will run from danger later to be protected by the female armed with a gun.
Next, a sense  in a barn with a male and a female. The woman is wearing a black dress this could be related to the women in the red dress from the matrix seeing as the female works for the media and the women is red works for the system. The male seems to be under pressure and weaken by the female that putting his lively hood under risk. When the male grabs and points the gun this backs up the stereotype that the male will go toward the gun as a means of comfort and way to fix things and the female that does not have a weapon she talks to the male pleading not to shot. When the female saved by the other characters she says “should of shot him, this was my best coat” this backs up the stereotype of women being fashion obsessed.
Camera angels work for the character instead for against them for example if the camera needs to show the male or female as powerful or week it did so, sound was used to set our feelings on the right path for example when the male was being chased by the creature the background music was very fast and undermined to show that the male was in fact running for his life and needed to make a quick getaway.
So gender is shown as a mixed person view, you can get the masculine and in control women for example like the women that was in control of the digger and women for instance in the barn ‘fashion obsessed’  and dressed in fine clothes. The men in the clip they a different between them to they is the older male that believes females need to be left alone to sort their complications out and the younger male that is worried about the women and feels to help and the weaker male that needs a female to save him for danger’s mistake that he might commit. So they both sexes and all have different personalities and characteristics form one another and all are shown in the clip.

Spooks Extract.AS Media Studies OCR

At the beginning of this clip there is a high angle shot to show us who are the people in charge at the moment and they are the two people not tied up. Frist we notice that the leader talking to the people is not wearing a tie but an open-necked shirt this gives us a clue of his ethnicity because in Middle Eastern country for example Iran ties are viewed as un-Islamic and have be said by the country’s supreme leader to contributing to the spreading of western culture. However the male talks about the news and there is a shallow focus when the camera fits in the woman, she is in the rule of thirds, he carries on to talk about the new and confirm that he is frim Iraqi when he say “my people” and “my country men” and also “to Iraq” also he says “Iraq” he says it in the accent of his 1st language. “We are all Al-Qaeda now” basically brands all Iraqi’s as terrorists meaning all Iraqi’s will try and take revenge for the war in Iraq. When the women specks the camera angle goes to an eye match shot of the other agents that is tied up. Next the male asks the female to read a message into the camera when but when she’s asks question’s her panther is at risk “that man can cut your throats very easily the male with a mask has a gun in the scene but would rather go to cut his throat.”
Many camera angles are used though out such as POV (point of view) to emphasize that fact that this is secret with only one another handheld camera in the field of vision in one part of the clip also with the POV shot in this since we see what the character is seeing even the short looks at the other individual tied up giving the look of desperation to the character. Handheld is used to show us the drama that’s being taken place also takes away the fact that this sort of issues isn’t just made for TV but actually occurs. Close ups at such thing for example the camera an editing effect is also used to and that is pulling focus to add dramatic meaning to the object and what is going to happen in a lot of terrorist gender movies the handheld camera on a tri pod that means the hostage is going to demand such item to keep them alive. The ethnicity of the officers is important to the male because they’re western spies and the Iraqi’s are represented as people who have gave up and act through any means necessary but the people who started the ‘war on terror’

'SAM'

I AM LEGEND ‘SAM’
This extract displays the connection between humans and animals; the daylight is above the dog this is significance that he’s the light the only way that the actor Will Smith can escape the darkness at this point Smith is caught on the rope and there is a deep focus on him trying to cut the rope this is to express to the audience that all focus is on cutting the rope and that both man and dog are observing the rope. Momentarily Smith drops onto a knife and starts to screech what’s ordinary is that the dog ‘Sam’ would start to scream too but instead Sam is in a two shot relaxing smith standing by him. Next shot is of the road and in our field of vision is the shadow of the structures signing sundown subsequently Smith is swarming back with Sam walking alongside Smith detecting for any trouble , we see the car on this left side of the rule of third. Following we hear dogs barking then Sam barking back and smith asking him to stop as if he could understand “NO, NO we got to go home Sam” the camera cuts to a shot of the sun light between the building telling the audience any second the CGI dogs we can tell they are CGI by the pulling focus on the dog next there’s a handheld view form the car looking downward to the gun in the car. Soon the light vanishes then the CGI dogs start to run and one dog jumps to Smith but Sam jump into the dog in mid-air this is presenting the relationship Smith and Sam have is significant and Sam would fight to defend Smith whist the fight is happening in the background, non-diegetic sound is being play and it is a fast drum bass music to show the tension and feeling at this moment and is cut off when all the CGI dogs are dead. At the fight smith see Sam get hurt by another dog and shouts “NO” showing us he doesn’t want to loss Sam to the infection and the only relationship he as. Smith shoots all the CGI dogs however Sam is a dog but that doesn’t matter to him he sees a different between Sam and other dogs and later in the movie I doesn’t shoot Sam he lets him die in his hands like a loved one. Nearer to the end of the scene Sam walks and drops in discomfort afterward the fight and smith stands up even nevertheless he couldn’t of one minute ago and picks up Sam and murmurs “its okay”
To close this scene shows the different between pets and animals and how barriers between humans and animals can be overcome when differences are put aside.
